Hochschule Esslingen

Esslingen University of Applied Sciences' vision of being an outstanding educational centre and innovative driving force for technology, business and social issues and their interaction reflects our aspiration. We live up to this claim by providing the best possible education for our approx. 6,300 students in 6 faculties, through close networking with regional research institutions and companies and by focussing on 3 application- and future-oriented research areas.

One of these three focal points - sustainable energy technology and mobility - has been driven forward by cross-faculty research projects at the research institute of the same name, INEM (Institute for Sustainable Energy Technology and Mobility), since 2012 - a current example of this is our GEFION project, in which INEM is involved with the Faculties of Business and Engineering and Computer Science and Information Technology.

The GEFION project represents an outstanding opportunity for us to conduct application-orientated research in the area of the INEM topic cluster ‘Resource Efficiency and Sustainability’ and to give new impetus to sustainable construction, true to the claim of Esslingen University of Applied Sciences: Close to people and technology!

Institute for Resource Efficiency and Energy Strategies (IREES)

The Institute for Resource Efficiency and Energy Strategies (IREES) is a scientific institute focussing on policy advice in the areas of climate protection and resource efficiency, in particular energy and material demand. We work on issues relating to decarbonisation in the building and industrial sectors.

We promote sustainable construction by calculating the environmental and climate impact of the entire building stock as well as individual buildings over their life cycle and making policy recommendations.

WoodenValley gGmbH

WoodenValley is a non-profit company in steward-ownership dedicated to research and education in the areas of circular and regenerative construction, as this is an enormous lever for climate protection.

Our vision is to support people holistically in shaping their living space in a self-effective and participatory way.

In our four fields of action, we co-creatively empower people and organisations to build in a participatory and circular way and inspire them to create a regenerative living and working space.

That is why we are continuously researching and training on topics such as Cradle to Cradle in construction, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Green & Healthy Buildings and offer coaching on transformation topics.

By combining our educational programmes with practical projects, we create the capacity to act. Our practical projects also shed light on the economic viability of cradle-to-cradle buildings, the integration of sustainability into workation retreats and the development of educational concepts for twin transformation.

Why are we doing all this? Circular thinking for everyone and working together are our strongest motivation!

Architectural office andOFFICE Blatter Ertel Probst Freie Architekten Part GmbBH

Conserving resources, both in construction and in operation, is a fundamental concern of our office. The early planning phase in particular sets the course for how sustainable a building will ultimately be over its entire life cycle. Examining this in detail in the research project is exciting and helps to optimise planning in practice.
